What does NICU-Friendly Mean?

Entering the NICU can feel overwhelming and unfamiliar. For many parents, it’s a world filled with new terminology, medical equipment, and unexpected challenges. These feelings remind me of my own experience last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Suddenly, terms like malignant, mastectomy, and DIEP flap became part of my everyday vocabulary. I imagine this is how parents of preemies feel—faced with new terms, routines, and expectations that gradually become second nature.
